My friend Josh is a marine. He returned from his deployment to Iraq back before summer began and since then has told me little bits and pieces about what it is like. I of course am very curious, because I know such a difficult career is unfathomable to me. However, I have to bite my tongue and not push the subject.
War is obviously a touchy subject today... I find myself being annoyed constantly by people who bicker about it. I don't want to talk about it. I don't want to hear about it. I suppose I like to forget it exists, and imagine the world is just sort of perfect and monotonous. But... like all the other things I try to forget, it seems to come back and haunt me.
The fact about war is that it is inescapable. No matter how much I try to forget or how hard people try to stop it, it will always be there. I support this claim by citing history, by citing humanity. As much as I hate war... wherever there are people, there will be fighting.

I'm so excited about your paper! In class, I didn't get to read what yours was about, but seriously I have almost the exact same views about war as you. I would like to know if you have an initial question you would like answered by the end of your paper? How do you plan to use research to back up your..argument? By your first blog, I'm not exactly sure where you are going with this, but so far it sounds really interesting. You could maybe use interviews from your friend Josh? So are you going to talk about how much you hate war (me too ugh) but how it's necessary (unfortunately yes :(()? You should elaborate in your next blog because I'm really interested. Sweet, okay well I'm not really sure what else to say except awesome! And I can't wait to read your paper. :)
ReplyDeleteWAIT! ONE MORE THOUGHT! I just read your title thingy and ya! Did you know that about "cellar door" being the most beautiful words or whatever, or did you learn that from me!? Now I kinda see where you're going with this paper, but still needs a little more explanation..hehe. So cool though I love the parallelism!
ReplyDeleteHa I knew about the cellar-door word combo before, but when we talked about it was when I officially decided to use it in my blog title. As for questions that I am asking in my paper... I have many and I haven't picked an exact direction yet. I am thinking that my exact angle will come as I go, hopefully. I'll talk about it in my next blog post!! :)
ReplyDeletebut of course war is a touchy subject. Depending on what part of the country you live in, there will be either die hards for war and die hards against the war. Idaho, except possibly Ada county, would most likely by a state for the war. By war i mean IRAQ. Which i totally disagree with. But that's another story. As long as you back up any argument pro or con with good evidence, I find you running into no problems with this topic.
ReplyDeleteHey Ian, would you mind explaining to me your opinions about Iraq? I wish to discuss both viewpoints about the war and I would find that extremely useful.
